PRIMARY SCOPE OF WORK
The BMEF ED will be the leader in managing the overall operations of the organization including strategic planning, financial management and fund development. As we transition from being a founder-led organization, the Executive Director will play a critical role in maintaining the relationships we have built with the community, funders, and donors, and inspiring the team for this next phase of the organization’s evolution. The position reports directly to the Co-founder. Part time, 15-20 hours per week with the potential for full time.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership, Culture, and Operations
-Build and manage a strong team to develop strong ties in the Black Montessori global community.
-Provide leadership to and manage the efforts of staff to ensure appropriate support across all departments.
-Enhance organizational culture of positivity and productivity including values-aligned policies for staff and day to day operations.
-Develop organizational systems to support the mission, vision, and culture of the organization efficiently and effectively.
-Set strategy, in collaboration with the board, through strategic planning processes, and oversee implementation of plan through effective programming, fundraising, and financial management to ensure current and future mission-aligned impact.
Fundraising & Development
-Oversee marketing and communication efforts including serving as BMEF’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public/donors, and represent the organization at various corporate, donor, funder, and community events to enhance the brand and communicate the foundation’s mission.
-Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically drive the BMEF’s mission.In partnership with staff, contributes to the design and implementation of protocols, policies, and procedures pertaining to the effective management of development operations
-Coordinate and produce donor mailings including planning, drafting of content, oversight of design, printing and mailing of the annual appeal letters, special mailings, and other communications
-Partner with the BMEF Advisory team development committee to co-create a strategic comprehensive development plan for private support through major gifts, leadership annual giving, and corporate and foundation gifts.Responsible for developing annual stewardship and donor recognition plans andtimelines, and collaborates with BMEF leadership to cultivate and maintain a formalized stewardship strategy for donors
-Coordinate fundraising and donor recognition events; defining the program, selecting guest speakers, designing of invitations and making all logistical arrangements
Communications
-Ensure that BMEF’s print and online communications are well-written, engaging, and speak directly to donors in a respectful way to encourage support for BMEF’s work
-Communicate with donor community regarding events, to develop clear, consistent, and compelling communications and coordinates all outbound donor correspondence and communication
-Consistently update BMEF’s Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages with relevant, shareable content appropriate for each particular medium. Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages
-Increase likes, followers, and overall community engagement, and track social media analytics
Financial Management
-Responsible for securing resources to support the BMEF’s mission through fundraising, building relationships with funders and major donors, grant-writing and management, and event oversight.
-Responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity of the organization including developing an annual budget, managing organizational resources to adhere to the budget, developing monthly and quarterly financial reports that accurately reflect the financial position of the organization.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ED must be thoroughly committed to Montessori education the BMEF’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership and relationship management experience. Specific requirements include:
-Bachelor’s degree, Masters a plus
-8 years of professional experience, particularly in fundraising, public relations, and
communication.
-Strong interest or ties to Montessori education.
-Demonstrated interest and capacity to generate resources for an organization
including donor cultivation, grant-writing, and spearheading fundraising events.
-Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of
influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
-Demonstrated cultural competency to build relationships and work across
communities of varied backgrounds and cultures.
-Demonstrates progressive growth experience in nonprofit leadership including
experience working with advisory teams.
-Exceptional organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program
development and task facilitation.
-Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis,
decision making and reporting.
-High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the
organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
-Strong written and oral communication skills.
-Strong public speaking ability.
-Leadership style that embodies a strong, energetic work ethic, with demonstrated
capacity to self-motivate and collaborate across teams.
